As a marquee signing for the Los Blancos this summer, the Belgian winger will miss Real Madrid’s LaLiga opener against Celta Vigo on Saturday.
A club statement confirming the development read;
“After the tests carried out after training today by the Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Eden Hazard has been diagnosed with a lesion in the anterior rectus of the left thigh His recovery will continue to be assessed.”
With Zinedine Zidane set to be forced into fielding other options, a door seems to be opened for unwanted Welsh forward Gareth Bale as he could be in the line-up for Saturday’s away game.
After completing a mega-money move of €100 million from Chelsea, Hazard is the only summer signing to have cemented his place in the starting eleven of Zidane’s squad for the season.
The 28-year-old could also miss Real Madrid’s meetings with Real Valladolid and Villarreal.
Hazard, who electrified the Premier League in his seven-year spell at the Stamford Bridge is expected to take the LaLiga by storm, but his competitive debut for Real Madrid has been postponed by a thigh injury.
But reports are that the former Lille playmaker will be available for selection when Real host Levante on August 24.
