Fit-Again Zappacosta Keen On Extending Roma Stay

Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta is keen on extending his stay at AS Roma, where he is on a season-long loan deal.

The 27-year-old Italian international linked up with Paolo Fonseca’s men at the start of the 2019/2020 season after signing a one-year extension to his contract in London.

Zappacosta has however not been able to show the stuff he’s made of in Rome as he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury after just one Serie A appearance.

Zappacosta’s chances of playing again this season was in doubt following the injury but the extension of the Serie A campaign because of the Coronavirus pandemic could see him feature again before the season concludes.

The former Atalanta man is craving for more time to show his worth even beyond this season.

"On a personal level, I would love to stay in Rome for several reasons," Zappacosta told Sky Sport Italia.

"The main one is that I want to show the fans, my team-mates and the management who I am and what I can do.

"I have worked a lot in these months, I have trained and I have made sacrifices to be available at the restart of the championship.

"I am doing some sessions completely dedicated to the knee, because it takes time to recover better from this injury. But now I feel 90 per cent fit."

Zappacosta joined Chelsea from Torino in 2017 and won the FA Cup and Europa League before his temporary departure.

"England and Chelsea have given me a lot," Zappacosta added. "I had the chance to play with great champions and win two trophies.

"The Premier League is a championship where people never give up."
