Timo Werner Prefers A Move Abroad Than Joining Bayern Munich

Germany forward Timo Werner has insisted he would rather move abroad than join RB Leipzig’s rivals Bayern Munich amid his future speculations.

Werner had netted 27 goals and provided 11 assists in 36 appearances for the Red Bulls before the season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 24-year-old has caught the eyes of several top clubs in Europe following his rapid progress in the Bundesliga, with clubs like Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea hoping to secure his services.

Despite insisting he respects the German champions, Werner has shrugged off recent reports linking him with Hansi Flick’s men, and admits he relishes the challenge of playing abroad.

"Bayern are a great club, we don't need to talk about it, and Hansi Flick has proven this season he is a really good head coach," Werner told Bild.

"But if a move were to become an issue at some point, I would be more tempted by a move abroad than a move to Bayern.

"It's just that the challenge of another league would appeal to me a little more than a move within the Bundesliga.

"Of course, it also important that mutual respect is there as much as possible. That's why I chose RB Leipzig at the time, and why I would choose the club for [the] next step as one where I would get that feeling."

The former VfB Stuttgart marksman is contracted to Leipzig until 2023 after extending his deal in August 2019.
