Senna Names Messi As World Best, Tips Neymar For Ballon D'or

Former Spain and Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna has insisted that Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and believes Brazil superstar Neymar can win the Ballon d’Or.

Senna played in La Liga for 10 years with Villarreal, before the Yellow Submarines were relegated after the 2011-2012 season.

Having played against Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for several years during his time in Spain, the Brazilian born Spaniard believes that nobody in football can now surpass the achievement of the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Despite admitting that the Argentine is in the league of his own, Senna thinks Neymar has the chance of matching him by winning the Ballon d’Or.

“For me, Messi is the best in the world, individually there’s no one better than him. He is the man,” the 43-year-old told Goal.com.

“Neymar is a complete player.”

“He is Ballon d’Or worthy, but he needs more luck due to the injuries.”

“Let’s see what happens now, I’m cheering for PSG in this Champions because, for me, Neymar is Ballon d’Or worthy.”

Senna played four seasons with fellow Villarreal cult-hero Santi Cazorla, whose time in England with Arsenal was marred by chronic injuries.

Cazorla returned to the Estadio de la Ceramica in the summer of 2018 following his successful recovery from injury.

The former Juventude man was happy about his compatriot’s return to fitness and was quick to laud the player’s ability to bounce back.

“Santi really had two very difficult years, but he was able to recover,” Senna added. “There were lots of people who didn't think he could make it, but he could after all.

“Villarreal gave him the opportunity and he took it. He was great last year, he is a Villarreal legend. He is not only technically gifted, but also has great charisma.”

“I don't know what is going to happen at the end of this season. But he's helped us so far, always playing at the top level.”

“I hope he can hold on physically and I hope he can stay at least one more year with us. It only depends on him and I'm sure he would love to stay.”
