Willian Uncomfortable With Premier League Restart Plans

Chelsea’s Brazilian winger Willian is not too comfortable with the idea of the Premier League restarting in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, even if games are going to be played behind closed doors.

The Premier League has been suspended since March 13 but plans are in place to resume play, initially without spectators, as soon as it is safe to do so.

Willian, who has since flown back to Brazil to be with his family, wants player safety to be considered before the league can resume.

Willian said, as quoted by Associated Press: "If we restart playing without fans but there’s contact on the pitch and maybe we can spread the virus between us.

"It’s not a bad idea but they have to know very carefully what’s going to happen. Maybe a player can have the virus and we play against each other, you know?

"I play against someone and I get the virus then I go home after the game to stay with my family and pass the virus to my wife or daughters. So we have to be careful about that."

Chelsea were one of the first clubs in England to be hit hard by Covid-19 after winger Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for the virus. Willian admits the club’s players were worried about the development, having come into contact with the 19-year-old.

"We shook hands and hugged each other. So after that when he tested positive for the coronavirus I think everyone was worried about it. But none of us felt any symptoms,” he added.
