Gundogan Okay If Premier League Title Is Given To Liverpool

Germany and Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has admitted he would not mind if Liverpool are given the title despite the Premier League season still yet to be completed.

The Premier League together with other leagues in Europe have been suspended due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

Liverpool are currently 25 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, and are six points away from winning their first league title since 1990.

The Premier League is set to return on April 30 but the rapid spread of Coivd-19 has cast doubt over the conclusion of the season.

Many theories have been put up including one suggesting the Premier League season should be truncated, others too believe the season should be completed when the plague is over.

Speaking to German Broadcaster ZDF, Gundogan says he would be okay when the title is given to Jurgen Klopp’s men despite Liverpool’s recent rivalry with Manchester City.

“It would be okay for me [If Liverpool are handed the title], you have to be sporting,” the former Borussia Dortmund man said.

With clubs facing serious financial problems due to the lack of football, the 29-year-old was further asked if he supports top players in England giving up their salaries in order to help clubs in the lower leagues.

Gundogan responded: "Of course I would find that okay, of course, but the lower league clubs do not have it so easy."
