Jurgen Klopp’s men currently sit comfortably at the top of the league table with a substantial 25-point gap.
Liverpool have only lost once in the league this season, a defeat which came in the hands of Nigel Pearson’s Watford at Vicarage Road last month.
The Reds are two wins away from winning their first league title since 1990, but the Premier League has been suspended until April 30 due to the rapid spread of Covid-19.
Many theories have been put up including one suggesting the season should be truncated, but Rooney insists waiting to see to the end of this season would be the right decision regardless of how long it takes.
“Liverpool will win the Premier League. [They] have been fantastic. They have put so much work in. They deserve this title,” the Manchester United and England legend wrote in his weekly column in The Times.
“Can you imagine waiting 30 years and then having it taken away like this? The right decision has been made. The fair thing is to finish 2019-20 — even if we have to lose next season in the process.”
Rooney added: “It wouldn’t surprise me if finishing the season takes until the end of 2020.”
