Lukaku Reveals Solskjaer Wanted Him To Stay At Old Trafford

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has admitted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted him to stay at Manchester United prior to his move to Inter Milan.

Lukaku joined the Serie A outfit last summer on a five-year contract for a fee around €80 million, which was reported to be a club record.

The Belgian spent two seasons at Manchester United, but the arrival of Solskjaer after the dismissal of Jose Mourinho limited Lukaku’s chances in the team and was often played out of position, a decision which did not settle well with him.

In an interview on Ian Wright's YouTube channel, Lukaku said: "One bad year can happen to everybody in their career. It was just done for me. You know what happened behind the scenes, it was just done. For me, it was done.”

"It was a difficult situation where for myself I had to make a decision where I have to go somewhere where I can learn other aspects of my game and work with somebody that wanted me as well.”

"Ole wanted me to stay, but I told him I was over. I didn't have the energy. All credit to him because he's been a man and he helped me make the move away."

The 26-year-old scored 42 goals in 96 appearances for the Red Devils, and he is flourishing in Italy as he has struck 23 times in 35 games.
