Sturridge Terminates Contract With Trabzonspor

Daniel Sturridge has agreed to mutually terminate his contract with Turkish side Trabzonspor just eight months into a two-year deal.

The 30-year-old former England international moved to the Senol Gunes Stadium on a free transfer in the summer transfer window following the expiration of his Liverpool contract.

Sturridge’s time in Turkey has seen him make 16 appearances in all competitions and he has scored seven goals, including four in the Super Lig which has helped Trabzonspor to the top of the league table on goal difference ahead of Galatasaray and Sivasspor, who are all locked on 48 points.

Sturridge featured in Trabzonspor’s 2-2 draw with Besiktas two weeks ago but was left out of the squad for Saturday’s 5-2 victory over Rizespor.

Trabzonspor released an official statement on Monday confirming Sturridge's departure, which reads: "The contract signed between our company and our professional footballer, Daniel Andre Sturridge, dated August 21, 2019 and ending May 31, 2021 has been mutually terminated.

"In accordance with the termination agreement, Sturridge has given up on his money owed for the remainder of his contract which was effective from August 2019 through May 31, 2021."

Sturridge has won 26 caps for the Three Lions of England, scoring eight goals and was part of their squads that featured at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 European Championships.

Sturridge started his career at Manchester City and has won the UEFA Champions League on two occasions with Chelsea in 2012 and Liverpool in 2019.
