BREAKING: Lewandowski Ruled Out For Four Weeks With Knee Injury

German champions Bayern Munich have been dealt a huge injury blow after Robert Lewandowski was ruled out of action for four weeks with a knee injury.

Lewandowski suffered the injury to the tibia in his left knee in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League triumph over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, where he played the full 90 minutes.

The Poland international striker was impressive against the Blues in London, laying on two assists for Serge Gnabry before scoring the final goal in a 3-0 win.

An official statement released by Bayern Munich on Wednesday read: “At FC Bayern’s 3-0 over Chelsea FC yesterday, Robert Lewandowski suffered a fracture of the tibia in his left knee joint.”

“This was the finding of a thorough examination by Bayern doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt upon his return from London on Wednesday today.”

“After immobilization in a plaster cast for ten days, rehabilitation training will commence. He will be out in total for approximately four weeks.”

Lewandowski, who is the top scorer in both the Champions League and Bundesliga, could miss up to six games with the injury.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker will miss upcoming league games against Hoffenheim, Augsburg, Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 31-year-old will also be unavailable when Hansi Flick’s men take on Schalke 04 in the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals as well as the Champions League round of 16 second leg with Chelsea.

Bayern Munich lead the Bundesliga table by a single point with RB Leipzig hot on their heels.
