Yerry Mina Charged By FA For Breaching Betting Rules

Everton centre-back Yerry Mina has been charged by the Football Association for appearing in a betting advertisement in his home country of Colombia.

The 24-year-old’s involvement in the commercial goes against some part of the Football Association’s regulations on betting.

Mina appeared in the advert for Betjuego in Colombia earlier this year and could be fined or banned if found culpable. He has until Friday to respond to the charge.

“Everton FC’s Yerry Mina has been charged with misconduct in relation to the FA’s Betting rules,” said an official statement.

“It is alleged that the defender breached FA Rule E8 (3) by participating in an advertisement for betting activity which he is prohibited from engaging in.

“He has until Friday (26/07/2019) to provide a response.”

Just last week former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, who is currently a free agent, was also fined £75,000 and handed a six-week suspension for breaching a different section of the betting regulations.

The rule Mina is alleged to have broken says: “An individual participant, when acting in a personal capacity, shall not be permitted to advertise or promote any betting activity that the participant is prohibited from engaging in by Rule E8(1) or E8(2).”

Mina joined Everton from Barcelona for a fee of £28.5m in August last year after a superb outing for Colombia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia where he scored three goals.

Mina’s first season in England was hampered by a number of fitness issues as he made just 15 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees but he is likely to play a greater role in the Everton set-up in the upcoming campaign following the departures of club captain Phil Jagielka and Kurt Zouma.
