“Teams Are Ganging Up On Him”-Wolves Skipper Bemoans Lack Of Protection For Adama Traore

Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Connor Coady has bemoaned a lack of protection from referees for teammate Adama Traore, who has been at the receiving end of some hefty challenges from opponents this season.

The 23-year-old has become a thorn in the flesh of most defenders, with his pace and trickery drawing fouls all over the pitch.

Wolves lost 2-1 to Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday at Molineux but Traore was a constant threat to the opposition, and capped his performance with a wonderful long-range effort to draw the home side level.

Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Toby Alderweireld all received yellow cards for bringing down Traore on Sunday.

That means an incredible 21 players have been cautioned for fouls on Traore in his 26 appearances across all competitions this season.

Traore also sits joint-fourth as the most fouled player in the Premier League this season, behind John McGinn, James Maddison, Wilfred Zaha and Jack Grealish.

Coady has had enough of the treatment meted out on Traore and has voiced his frustration on the issue.

“Teams are ganging up on him – it's one player, then another player," Coady said, according to the Daily Mail.

“Tottenham were clever in terms of how different players were fouling him but it's hard from our point of view to keep seeing that happen.

“They (Tottenham) were spreading things out. That's what's disappointing from our point of view. It was obviously something they've said and then carried out. It's hard to take because he beats his man every time.

“We speak to referees every game. They say they can't do much about it because they are booking them but they're not red cards. I can see where they are coming from where it's not a red card.”

Traore has scored three goals and provided three assists in 16 league appearances this season.

He was called up to the Spain squad for the first time last month but failed to honour the call after suffering an unspecified injury.
