The Brazilian is yet to hit the ground running in the Bundesliga after his loan move from Barcelona at the start of the season.
The former Liverpool midfielder has scored four goals and provided five assists in his first 19 games for the Bundesliga champions so far, but much is expected from a player of his standard.
Ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen, the German insists Coutinho is ‘on the right track’ and he is still getting familiar with his new surroundings.
"He played very well against Tottenham. It was important for him to do so," the 54-year-old told reporters.
"He is in a very good way and is on the right track. It's not easy to come to Germany and get a foothold straight away. He will show his quality again."
Coutinho could be in contention to start against Bremen following the absence of Kingsley Coman, who hurt his knee in Bayern’s game against Spurs, but Flick insists either the Brazilian or Alphonso Davies could be used on the left wing.
"We will see, i have been very satisfied with Alphonso. He has done very well defensively. His pace makes him an asset for us at the back.
"He is also very strong on the ball. I really like his development."
Bayern Munich are seven points adrift leaders Borussia Monchengladbach and are looking to win their first league match after two defeats.
