Watkins' four goals in September included one hat-trick and an assist for Aston Villa.
Son was the division's top scorer for the month with six goals registered.
Elsewhere, Unai Emery, Ange Postecoglou, Eddie Howe, Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp will battle it out for manager of the month.
Tottenham Hotspurs playmaker James Maddison won player of the month in August, with Postecoglou taking home the managers' prize.
