Pogba Facing Four-Year Ban From Football For Failing Doping Test

Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been provisionally suspended for failing a doping test.

Pogba could be banned from football for up to four years if found guilty.

The France international was one of the players randomly selected to be tested after Juventus' opening Serie A game of the season against Udinese on August 20.

Even though Pogba was an unused substitute for the encounter he tested positive for high levels of testosterone, which increases athletes' endurance.

Italy's National Anti-Doping tribunal ruled on Monday that the 30-year-old will not be able to play for Juventus for the time being and has three days to request a second test to confirm the veracity of the first.

"In acceptance of the instance proposed by the National Anti-doping Prosecutor, it has provided for the provisional suspension of the athlete Paul Labile Pogba,” NADO Italia said in a statement.

Juventus confirmed Pogba's provisional suspension in a club statement on Monday night.

The statement read: 'Juventus Football Club announces that today, September 11, 2023, the footballer Paul Labile Pogba received a precautionary suspension order from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal following the results of tests carried out on August 20, 2023.

'The club reserves the right to consider the next procedural steps.'

Pogba has made two substitute appearances for Juventus this season.

He has been dogged by fitness issues since returning to the club from Manchester United last summer, only making 10 appearances last season.
