Kepa has been a subject for continuous criticisms by some section of Chelsea fans, despite the side enjoying some success domestically.
The Spaniard’s latest pressure came on Wednesday when the Blues shared spoils with La Liga outfit Valencia in their Champions League game at Mestalla.
Having denied his fellow compatriot Dani Parejo from the spot kick, the Blues were on course for a 2-1 victory before Kepa failed to save Daniel Wass’ effort from the right side of attack with just eight minutes to end proceedings.
Following the 2-2 draw, Kepa’s positioning for Wass’ goal was questioned by Chelsea fans and pundits, but Lampard believes it will be unfair to negatively judge his goalkeeper’s abilities.
"It was certainly a fluke,” the 41-year-old said after the game.
"He didn’t mean to score and that makes it more difficult for the goalkeeper because they don’t expect to go off the far top corner, the cross came in too high for him.”
"I know there might be the feeling he pulled his hands away, I’m not sure he would have got there anyway.”
"I will have to look at it again and Kepa will be the best one because he’s very honest with himself and if he feels he could have got it then I’m sure he would say that.”
