Aubameyang Reverses Gabon Retirement Decision

Chelsea striker Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang has made a sensational return to the Gabon national team a year on after announcing his international retirement.

After scoring 30 goals in 72 international appearances, Aubameyang stepped aside from representing his country in May last year.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker is his country's all-time leading goalscorer and his return is sure to boost their prospects of qualifying for next year's Africa Cup of Nations.

Aubameyang had a change of heart following a meeting with Gabon president Ali Bongo Ondimba.

"(I) listened to the wise words he said to me as a father talking to his son," Aubameyang posted on Instagram.

"A few days ago, I had the immense honour to be received by the President of the Republic (of Gabon) Ali Bongo Ondimba," Aubameyang's post added.

"Following this, I therefore put myself at the disposal of my country and of the coach Patrice Neveu."

Aubameyang was part of the Gabon team for AFCON 2021 but did not play at the tournament after suffering complications from a positive Coronavirus infection.

The 33-year-old has had a troubled time at club level this season, playing 21 times, mostly as a substitute for Chelsea and scoring three goals.
