Yamal is the youngest player to feature in the squad for Barcelona for an official game.
The Spain u-19 international could become Barcelona's youngest ever player if he makes an appearance on Sunday.
Yamal is held in high regard among the Barcelona youth ranks and is the latest gem to be unearthed at their famous La Masia academy.
Barcelona sit 11 points clear of Real Madrid going into this weekend's fixtures and are primed to win their first La Liga title since 2019.
Manager Xavi Hernandez is adamant Yamal will be ready to play a part if called upon to feature at the Camp Nou.
"Everyone on the list has options to participate," Xavi noted ahead of the game against Diego Simeone's third placed side.
"We have given the opportunity to many young players. In July he will be 16 years old. He has personality, innate talent; he is good at passing, he is strong and [boasts good] final pass.
"He can mark an important era at the club. I have talked to him. He is not afraid. He is grateful, happy. The new generations are not afraid, they have self-confidence. He has done wonderful trainings."
"He has trained very well. I liked what he did. Regardless of his age and his contractual situation, I think he can help us. He has very good footballing conditions."
