Ferdinand Lauds Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand praised in-form Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham after another wonderful display during Chelsea’s win over Lille in the Champions league.

Abraham broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute to get Chelsea off to a good start but Nigerian Victor Osimhen pegged the Blues back shortly after, to set up a tense second half.

Willian volleyed the ball home in the 77th minute as Chelsea got their first Champions league win under Frank Lampard following the opening day loss to Valencia at Stamford Bridge.

Abraham has had to bide his time at Chelsea, taking in loan spells at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa before finally breaking into the club’s first team plans following their two-window transfer ban.

According to the former England defender, Abraham is proving his doubters wrong and the goal he scored against the Ligue 1 outfit was reminiscent of the great Didier Drogba.

‘Do you know what I love about him? It’s that when he was at Chelsea and he was scoring loads of goals, they had Dominic Solanke and everyone in the house thought that he was the one. They thought Solanke was better than him,’ the 40-year-old said on BT Sport.

‘He’s had to go out on loan, he’s had to go and prove himself at various clubs in the Championship. ‘He’s had to show people that he’s made of the right stuff.

‘He’s come back. Yeah, he’s been fortunate in terms of the situation at Chelsea but again, character. ‘You can have all the ability in the world but if you have not got the character and the nous to see a situation and say “I’m going to take that” He is done that. ‘He’s doing that right now and he’s improving game by game. It’s great to see’

Abraham is firing on all cylinders and has been included in the England squad to face Czech Republic and Bulgaria in the upcoming EURO 2020 qualifiers.
