Barca Are Right In La Liga Race, Says Assistant Head Coach

Barcelona assistant head coach Alfred Schreuder believes his side are right in the race for the league title after a 3-2 win at Valencia on Sunday.

The Catalans put up a spectacular show in the second half at the Mestalla Stadium to keep their La Liga bid alive.

After an uninventive first half display from both sides, it was Valencia who drew first blood five minutes after the interval thanks to Gabriel Paulista, but Lionel Messi got the equalizer seven minutes later before Antoine Griezmann gave the visitors the lead on 63 minutes.

Messi scored his second on the night on 69 minutes with his 50th free kick for Barcelona and it was enough to beat Javi Gracia’s men despite Carlos Soler’s strike during the dying embers.

"It will be very close, that's also what we hoped in January," Schreuder said on the title race.

"We are there. We don't have to look at other teams. We look at ourselves.

"Sometimes we lose points, sometimes Atletico, sometimes Real, Sevilla... It won't be the final game next week. We still have four games to go.

"Everybody at Barcelona trusts our players [to win the title]. We trust our players. That's what they showed today again.

"If you look at how far the distance to Atletico was in the beginning, in January, it was very far.

"We've had a very good month for the last three months. That was important to be where we are now.

"If we win next week, we are above them.

"It's an important game. But we also have other teams [Real Madrid and Sevilla] who play the day after for the same position as us.

"We look at game to game. Of course, we know that it's a very important game [against] Atletico."
