Thiago Silva Rules Out Return To AC Milan As Player But Open To Coaching Role

Thiago Silva says he could return to AC Milan one day as a coach but his time as a player there is over.

Silva will return to the San Siro with Chelsea on Tuesday for the return encounter of their UEFA Champions League group stage clash.

The 38-year-old spent three seasons with AC Milan between 2009 and 2012, winning one Serie A title before leaving for Paris Saint Germain.

Silva had the opportunity to return to Milan when his chapter in the French capital closed but the chance could not materialise and he opted rather for Chelsea in the summer of 2020 where he has since ended his long wait to hoist the Champions League trophy.

Silva's contract with the Blues ends in the summer of 2023 and his next move remains unknown, though returning to Milan as a player is out of the cards.

"My passage [in Milan] is already done," the Brazilian stated ahead of the game.

"My story is already written. The opportunity to come here came before [I joined] Chelsea, but it didn't happen."

With that said, Silva acknowledged he could return once hanging up his boots, adding: "I don't think I can return to Milan [as a player]. [But] in the future, as a coach? Maybe.

"I am very happy, very excited to be back [in San Siro]. Everything I have been through with this great club, it comes to mind. [During the game] it will be even more so."

"It is probably not the right time to talk about contracts," he added.

"What I can tell you is, for me, it is important to continue playing at the highest level and help the team achieve the highest possible results.

"The time will come to talk, and it could be time before or after the [Qatar 2022] World Cup. I need to decide my contract for my family arrangements and it is not easy. We will see what will happen."

Silva has made nine appearances for Chelsea this season.
