Alexander-Arnold Left Out Of England Squad For Germany Clash

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been omitted from England's matchday squad for their final UEFA Nations League encounter against Germany on Monday.

The Three Lions have already been relegated from the top tier of the Nations League after failing to win any of their opening five games.

With the Germany game being a dead rubber, it was hoped that Alexander-Arnold would play some part in a game that will be England's final match before their World Cup campaign starts in November.

The Liverpool right back was an unused substitute in the 1-0 loss to Italy on Friday and will once again play no part against the Germans at Wembley, putting his selection for the upcoming World Cup in doubt.

Despite his impressive performances for Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is behind Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier for the right back role at international level.

Since making his England debut in 2018, Alexander-Arnold has featured in just 17 of 58 games for his country. In that time, he has won every available trophy for Liverpool and made over 60 assists from right back.

"Of course, he does have a fantastic range of passing, we're blessed with different profiles of player in that position," England manager Gareth Southgate told reporters when discussing Alexander-Arnold's irregularity for England.

"If we play with wing-backs, [Kieran] Trippier and Reece James are also exceptional with the ball, in different ways, and we're always having to look at the full package with everything and assess the players on all of their attributes.

"They've all been to Champions League finals, some of them have been to latter stages of major tournaments with us, Trent's won the league, Trippier's won the Spanish league, [Kyle] Walker's won the English league; there are so many good attributes about them.

"It's a really difficult position to make decisions on, but we have to go with the ones we believe [in], and ultimately I'll be judged on the outcome, as we know."
