Benzema, Courtois And De Bruyne Up For UEFA Men's Player Of The Year Award

Thibaut Courtois, Karim Benzema and Kevin De Bruyne have been shortlisted for the UEFA Men's footballer of the year award.

The three nominees mean that for the third straight season, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo have made it to the podium for the award.

De Bruyne is the only one out of the trio to have been nominated last season as well.

Courtois was named man-of-the match in the Champions League final, producing a string of impressive stops to thwart Liverpool's attackers as Real Madrid won the competition for a 14th time. The Belgium international also helped Carlo Ancelotti's side win La Liga and the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

Ballon D'or favourite Benzema scored 15 goals en route to Real's Champions League success. The Frenchman also recorded 44 goals in 46 games across all competitions. He scored Real Madrid's second goal as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.

For the third straight season, Premier League player of the year, De Bruyne, makes the final three for UEFA's best player.

De Bruyne helped Man City reach the Champions League semi-finals and also win the Premier League, scoring 15 goals in the top flight along the way.

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho won the award last year.

This year's winner will be announced at the Champions League group stage draw in Istanbul on August 25.

Elsewhere, Ancelotti, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola will battle for the UEFA Men’s Coach Of the Year award.
