Bayern Munich Hierarchy Content With Forward Options Despite Lewandowski Loss

Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn does not envisage the Bundesliga champions signing another striker in the summer transfer window.

The Bundesliga champions have lost the services of star forward Robert Lewandowski, who scored 50 goals in all competitions last season, to Barcelona and are yet to bring in a direct replacement.

Bayern have however augmented their forward lines with the signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool.

Links to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane have circulated in the rumour mill for months but Bayern are yet to bring in an out-and-out centre forward.

Despite the loss of Lewandowski, Bayern Munich showed their attacking mettle over the weekend in the DFL-Super Cup against RB Leipzig when five different scorers found the net in a 5-3 victory.

"That was strong," Kahn said of the performance to BILD.

"You could see how many opportunities we had going forward, how many different formations we had, how surprising we can be, how many good footballers are there, how much speed we can bring into the game with many, many extremely fast players.

"It's the case that we still have options in the current team. [Joshua] Zirkzee is there, [Eric] Choupo-Moting is there, then the young Mathys Tel, who is training incredibly well at the moment. We would also have opportunities there."

The likes of Mane, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane were on target and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic is adamant Bayern can cope with what they have for the season.

"You could see that we are extremely dangerous, that we have many fast and dangerous players," he told BILD. "That's the idea.

"Of course, it's a different way of playing. If the boys do what we envision, I think we can spread the goals on many shoulders."

"The transfer market runs until August 31, but usually we have completed our planning by then."
