Chiesa Out For Seven Months After Undergoing Successful Surgery

Juventus forward Federico Chiesa has undergone successful surgery on an anterior cruciate ligament injury and will be out of action for up to seven months.

Chiesa’s season effectively looked over after suffering the injury against AS Roma in a Serie A game on January 9.

Chiesa was replaced in the 32nd minute as Juventus emerged 4-3 victors at the Stadio Olympico.

The 24-year-old will now hope to recover in time for the start of the 2022/2023 season.

The club said in a statement on Sunday: "This afternoon, Federico Chiesa underwent surgery to reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

"The operation, performed at the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck by Professor Christian Fink and in the presence of Juventus' Dr Stefanini, proved to be a perfect success. The expected recovery time is approximately seven months."

Chiesa’s injury will come as bad news also for Italy manager Roberto Mancini.

The European champions will contest a FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off against North Macedonia in March, with the winner of that tie set to face either Portugal or Turkey for a place in Qatar.

Chiesa made 18 appearances across all competitions for Juventus this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
