Arteta Leaves Aubameyang Out In The Cold Against Leeds United

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still not available for selection ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League trip to Leeds United this weekend, according to manager Mikel Arteta.

Earlier this week, Aubameyang was stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following another disciplinary breach.

The 32-year-old has been left out of the Arsenal matchday squad for the last two matches against Southampton and West Ham United, and the Leeds game will be the third in succession not to feature the Gabon international.

Aubameyang’s name was conspicuously missing from Arsenal’s matchday squad for the visit of Southampton last weekend after he reportedly returned late from a trip abroad.

"No, [Aubameyang] is not available for selection," Arteta said at a news conference ahead of the match against Leeds.

"He wasn't eligible for this game and that's it. This game is gone. We will discuss it in the near future."

Arsenal have won the last two games against the Saints and West Ham United without Aubameyang, and have climbed to fourth on the Premier League table.

Aubameyang was named Arsenal captain towards the end of 2019 and he led the North London outfit to FA Cup glory later that season against Chelsea.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Saint Etienne striker has scored four goals in 14 Premier League games this season.
