Hamann Hails ‘World Best’ Salah After Another Stellar Display Against Atletico Madrid

Former Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann has hailed Mohamed Salah as the best player in the world in the wake of another mesmeric display in Liverpool’s 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday.

Salah has taken his game to another level having started the 2021/2022 season on a high and Hamann says there is no doubt that the Egypt superstar is currently the best footballer in the world.

The 29-year-old was at the heart of everything good Liverpool did against Atletico Madrid on the night.

He broke the deadlock just eight minutes into the game and got the winner late in the game when the match was poised at 2-2.

He has now scored twelve goals in eleven matches in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side, making him the deadliest marksman.

Reacting to Salah’s breathtaking performance at the Wanda Metropolitano, Hamann was asked if the former Chelsea and AS Roma winger is the best footballer in the world at the moment.

“There’s no doubt about it. You see his goals against City, the one against Watford was even better. He’s scored in nine consecutive games now,” the German told talkSPORT.

“He gets compared at Liverpool to Aldridge, Owen, Fowler, Torres and others. He gets compared to them and gets the same or better figures than these guys and he’s a wide player. He’s not even a centre forward.

“His stats and figures since he joined the club are absolutely ridiculous. I know Lewandowski beat Muller’s record of 41 goals last season, on current form you have to say he’s the best.

“Has he done enough to win the Ballon d’Or? Other people have to decide but he’s certainly in the mix.”
