Mancini Expresses Discontent Over Donnarumma Boos

Italy head coach Roberto Mancini has shown his displeasure with the boos that followed goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in his side’s 2-1 defeat against Spain in the Nations League semi-final on Wednesday.

Italy's 37-game rein came to an end at the San Siro but it was not the only negative headlines for the Azzurri.

Donnarumma was booed by fans for leaving AC Milan for free following the closure of the 2020/2021 season.

The 22-year-old came through the ranks at AC Milan and played for the first team from 2015 to 2021.

His contract was due in June 2021, but Donnarumma refused to sign a new deal and instead joined Paris Saint-Germain.

The Italian returned to San Siro for the first time to play for Roberto Mancini’s men against La Roja and the AC Milan fans vented their spleen.

“It certainly won’t have pleased him, just as it did not please us. Gigio did well,” the former Manchester City and Italy manager said in his press conference.

“Obviously, it was disappointing, because this was Italy playing, it was not a club match. They could’ve put it aside for one match, maybe saved it for PSG-Milan, because Italy are meant to come above everything else.”

It was a night to forget for Italy as Ferran Torres scored twice in the first half to make sure Lorenzo Pellegrini’s late strike was nothing but a mere consolation.
