Mourinho says beating Zorya was all that matters as his side’s 100 percent start to the maiden competition continues.
The Giallorossi hopes of putting the 3-2 defeat against their local rivals Lazio in Serie A last weekend behind them came to fruition when they ran riot in Luhansk.
Stephan El Shaarawy broke the deadlock in the opening seven minutes before Chris Smalling doubled Mourinho’s side advantage on 66 minutes.
Substitute Tammy Abraham, who has been a revelation since signing for the Rome-based team from Chelsea in the summer transfer window, got on the scoresheet two minutes later to make sure the visitors returned to Italy with the maximum points.
“I liked the result, which is what matters in the end,” Mourinho told Sky Sport Italia.
“A few days ago we dominated against a team that was made to seem small and yet we lost. Tonight we won and that is the most important thing.
“We need another five or six points to secure qualification. Many players got to rest, we didn’t have any new injuries, so that is all positive.”
Next up for Mourinho and AS Roma is a home game against Empoli in the Serie A on Sunday.
