Scholes Hits Out At Manchester United’s Display Against Partizan

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes was not impressed with his former side’s performance on Thursday against Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League group stages.

Anthony Martial's goal from the penalty spot in the 43rd minute was enough to secure all three points for the Red Devils in Serbia.

This was Manchester United’s first victory away from Old Trafford since their 3-1 win against Paris Saint Germain in March.

After the game, Scholes slammed Manchester United's lack of quality in the final third and blamed them for playing 'like a team of strangers’.

The 44-year-old expected something better from Manchester United following their encouraging 1-1 draw against their bitter rivals Liverpool last Sunday.

"I think after the Liverpool game, there was a little bit of encouragement," Scholes said on BT Sports after the game.

"But then you come back to tonight and it seems very similar to the start of the season.”

"It’s like a team of strangers, it’s like they’ve never played with each other before, there is no link between the midfield players and the strikers. The weight of pass at times was so bad.”

"You want to be encouraged you want to see some bits of good play now and again, a one-two here and there, the number 10 receiving the ball on the half turn, but there’s a lack of encouragement.”

"I think defensively they were quite poor as well tonight, second half there was only one team that looks like scoring.”

“I don’t see anything. A lot of the games they’re going to have the ball but they have to be cleverer."

The Red Devils will now switch their attention back to the Premier League on Sunday when they face Norwich City at Carrow Road.
