Ozil To Stay At Arsenal Until 2021

Mesut Ozil has insisted he has no plans of leaving Arsenal before the end of his contract which runs until the summer of 2021.

The former Real Madrid playmaker signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract worth £350,000 per week in January 2018, making him Arsenal’s top earner.

Ozil became Arsenal’s star man following his shock transfer move from Real Madrid in 2013 but the arrival of Unai Emery has limited his first team chances.

Despite playing in just two of Arsenal's eleven games this season under coach Unai Emery, Ozil insists he has no plans to leave.

"I have a contract until the summer of 2021 and I will be staying until then,” Ozil told The Athletic.

“When I signed the new deal, I thought about it very carefully and said it was one of the most important decisions of my footballing career”.

“I didn't want to stay for just one or two more years, I wanted to commit my future to Arsenal and the club wanted me to do the same”.

"You can go through difficult times, like this, but that is no reason to run away and I'm not going to. I'm here until at least 2021."

The 31-year-old has been widely criticized by fans and pundits for his lack of commitment but the German says blaming him for Arsenal’s failures “make no sense”.

He said: "If we don't play well in a big game it's always my fault,”. “But if that's true then how do you explain some of the bad results in games that I haven't played? “It makes no sense."

"I also get really frustrated when I miss a game through illness and people question if it is genuine. Yes, it happened a few times - usually in the winter - but what am I supposed to do?
