Varane who has been on the wishlists for United for long is now set to don the red jersey and control the central defence with his experience.
Manchester United in a short statement announced the signing of Raphael Varane, subject to a medical.
"Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of French international defender and World Cup winner, Raphael Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised."
Real Madrid also congratulated the defender for time spent with them, wishng the best in his new challenge.
"Real Madrid wants to show all its affection to Raphael Varane and his family and wishes him good luck in this new stage of his professional career."
Reports are that both clubs have signed an agreement for the transfer earlier on Tuesday, giving Varane the greenlight to have a medical.
United with the idea of augmenting their squad to chase for a Premier League title this term have already signed Jadon sancho from Borussia Dortmund for a whooping £73 million deal last week as Varane is expected to become the second summer signing for £34 million rising to £42 million.
Due to the present UK coronarius travel instructions it is not expected that Varane would be able to undergo a medical until next week.
Varane will partner England defender Harry Marguire to make sure the conceeding rate at United reduces.
In 2011 Varane joined Real Madrid from French club Lens, making 360 appearances across all competitions.
Varane won three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies during his stint with the Los Blancos.
