Wijnaldum joined Liverpool from Newcastle in 2016 on a five-year deal and enjoyed a successful stint, brining his five-year stay at the club to an end after failing to extend his contract as he joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free agent.
And stressing on the cause of his departure from Liverpool, Wijnaldum revealed he 'didn't feel love' from a section of the fans in his final two seasons.
“Liverpool meant so much to me. There were some moments when I didn’t feel love and appreciated there.
“Not by my teammates, not the people at Melwood. I know they all loved me and I loved them. It was not from that side, more from the other side.
“There was a moment when I didn’t feel loved. In the last two seasons, I had it a few times.
"The media didn’t help. There was a story like I didn’t accept the [Liverpool] offer because I wanted more money, and the fans made it like ‘OK, he didn’t get the offer so he doesn’t try his best to win games. Everything looked like it was against me.
"Some moments it was like, ‘Wow, me again?’"
Responding to the disclosure by Wijnaldum, Carragher believes the revelation by the former player “is not right” and says he left because his request for an improved salary was not granted by Liverpool.
“I love Gini but this is not right, social media is a circus and every club has clowns.
“Turn off your notifications if it’s bothering you that much, delete the app!
“He wanted more money [and] the club said no, that’s football!”
Wijnaldum made 237 appearances for the Reds, winning four major trophies.
