AC Milan Confirm Giroud Signing

France striker Olivier Giroud has joined AC Milan from English Premier League Chelsea for a fee around €2 million.

Giroud will stay at the San Siro until the end of the 2022/2023 season and has an option to extend it for another year. He will be wearing the famous number nine jersey for the Rossoneri.

The 34-year-old was introduced to the Premier League in the summer of 2012 when he joined Arsenal from Montpellier. He stayed in North London for five-and-a-half years before joining the Gunners’ direct rivals Chelsea in January 2018.

In his time in West London, Giroud helped Chelsea to FA Cup glory in his first four months and was the Blues’ main man in front of goal when they hoisted the Europa League trophy in May 2019 under Maurizio Sarri.

He was also part of Thomas Tuchel’s side that won the Champions League in the 2020/2021 season. He scored six goals for the Blues en route to the showpiece. His most notable contribution came against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Round of 16 when he scored an acrobatic goal which helped Tuchel’s side to progress to the quarter-final stage.

The former Tours man was used mostly as a second striker during his time at Stamford Bridge but he managed to 39 goals and provided 14 assists in all competitions for Chelsea.

Both clubs took to their social media handles on Saturday to announce the transfer of the Frenchman.
