O’Hara Disagrees With Southgate’s Plans To Play Kane Against Czech Republic

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara has insisted that Harry Kane must be rested in England’s upcoming game against Czech Republic on Tuesday.

O’Hara believes the England skipper is failing to make a mark in the ongoing Euros due to a lot of pressure exerted on his shoulders.

Having failed to have a shot on target so far in the tournament, the 27-year-old was substituted in both the win over Croatia and goalless draw with Scotland.

England head coach Gareth Southgate confirmed on Sunday that the Tottenham superstar will be starting against the Czech Republicans despite many calls to drop him.

But O’Hara does not agree with the former Middlesbrough coach insisting Kane should somehow start the game from the bench.

“I would actually rest him,” O’Hara told talkSPORT. “I would rest him, not drop him, rest him.

“I think he has had a lot of pressure put on his shoulders coming into this tournament; Golden Boot in the Premier League, everyone talking about him being up there with Haaland, Mbappe and Lewandowski and his stats this season have been great.

“I just think he has struggled a little bit with the pressure, I don’t think he is 100% fit – he keeps saying he is – but he ain’t.

“He looks tired, physically and mentally, he looks tired to me.”

Kane won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup and ended the Premier League season as the top goalscorer.
