Perez Tells Ramos ‘Thank You’ For His Years At Real Madrid

Spain legend Sergio Ramos departs after 16 years at Real Madrid and president Florentino Perez has sent an emotional message to the defender.

Perez bestowed Real Madrid legendary status on Ramos and insists the Santiago Bernabeu stadium will forever be the 35-year-old’s home.

Ramos joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2005 and went on to etch his name as one of the best defenders in the rich history of football.

Ramos made 671 appearances for Real Madrid, scored 101 goals and provided 40 assists in the process.

He has won everything with the Madrid-based team including four Champions League trophies, five La Liga titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, two Copa del Reys among numerous other laurels.

"It is not an easy day, because you are special to me. I wish you happiness and I want you to know that this will always be your home," Florentino Perez said to Ramos.

"A legend like you will always be one of the great ambassadors of Real Madrid.

“I will never forget September 8, 2005, when Sergio arrived at the Bernabeu to be presented," Florentino Perez recalled.

"He had an immense desire to take on the world, he was my first signing of a Spanish player, a kid from Camas with enormous desire, a signing that was not easy, but we were convinced that his arrival was going to mark an era.

"Sixteen years have passed and you have had one of the most spectacular careers in the history of our club. You arrived almost as a child and I am enormously proud of what you have achieved.
