Henderson Ready To Jostle With De Gea For Number One Spot At Old Trafford

England goalkeeper Dean Henderson has admitted he is ready to put up a fight in order to establish himself as the number one goalkeeper for Manchester United.

Henderson says he is “going to keep working hard day in, day out” to claim the number one spot at Old Trafford.

The Englishman spent two impressive seasons at Bramall Lane with Sheffield United in both the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 campaigns.

Henderson was widely noticed when Sheffield United were promoted to the Premier League in the 2019/2020 season.

He helped Chris Wilder’s men to a ninth place finish on the Premier League table as he kept 14 clean sheets in 36 league appearances for the Blades.

The 24-year-old was tipped to displace David de Gea as Manchester United’s number one keeper ahead of the 2020/2021, but that was not quite the case as he was reduced to only 26 appearances with 13 of those coming in the Premier League last season.

Henderson is currently with the England squad preparing for the upcoming Euros and he has sent a warning to De Gea insisting he is ready to work hard in order to claim the number one spot.

“Yeah, 100 per cent. I’ve spoken about this for years. Whether it gets me in trouble speaking about it, whether it holds me back at certain times, it probably does”, said Henderson, per Daily Star.

“But at the end of the day it’ll happen one day and I know it’ll happen, so I’m just going to keep working hard day in, day out and my time will come. I was 100 per cent born ready.

“I’ve just got to be ready for when that time comes. There’s no excuses when you step over that white line. You’ve got to puff your chest out and go for it and everything that you’ve put in day in, day out, all the training, everything, pays off.”
