Sacchi Backs Sarri To Improve Lazio And Serie A

Italy and AC Milan icon Arrigo Sacchi has backed his compatriot Maurizio Sarri to improve Lazio and the Serie A.

Sarri was officially announced as the new head coach of Lazio on Wednesday following the departure of Simone Inzaghi to train Inter Milan.

Sacchi believes Sarri’s return to football management in the Italian topflight will help ‘elevate’ Serie A.

Sarri was without a job since he was sacked as Juventus manager following the end of the 2019/2020 season, where he guided the Bianconeri to their ninth consecutive league title.

His dismissal came shortly after Juventus’ failure to progress past the Round of 16 stage of the UEFA Champions League at the expense of Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais.

Sacchi says Sarri has learnt lessons from his Juventus adventure and that will help him excel with the Rome-based team.

“I believe the campaign he spent with the Bianconeri really taught him a great deal,” Sacchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Seeing as we are talking about an intelligent man, I am certain this experience improved him as a coach. He’ll do very well at Lazio.”

“I say that Sarri’s return will help elevate Serie A, because I believe coaches must be teachers, strategists and not just tacticians.

“Sarri is someone who teaches football, his lads just have to follow his instructions and you’ll see they will achieve fine results. Naturally, he’ll need a little time for them all to adapt to each other, because you don’t build a castle overnight.”
