Fowler Believes Liverpool Can’t Afford To Sign Harry Kane

Former English footballer Robbie Fowler has insisted that Liverpool might not have the financial power to sign want-away Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane.

Kane has put a lot of big European clubs on alert after it was reported that he is searching for a new adventure in a club which can meet his ambition.

The 27-year-old’s future has been uncertain for quite some time now and reports have revealed that Kane had talks with club chairman Daniel Levy, and has made his intention of leaving known to the board.

Liverpool could join other Premier League rivals like Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City in the hunt to sign the England international, but Fowler does not believe Kane’s transfer to Anfield is possible as he thinks his former club are financially handicapped.

“Harry Kane is one of the outstanding players in the Premier League, he really is. I’m not surprised that there’s not going to be a shortage of clubs wanting to sign him,” the 46-year-old told talkSPORT.

“Whether clubs can afford him, I don’t know. You look at City and Manchester United, they could probably afford him. I’m not sure Liverpool have got the money to bring in a player of that ilk and a player of that price.”

While Kane might be beyond Liverpool’s reach, the English side will be in the market this summer looking for other options to bolster their squad.

Fowler hopes Liverpool will be busy finding solutions to their 2020/2021 problems in order to improve next season.

“Whenever you are involved in a football team, you always want to sign players regardless of the positions that need strengthening,” he added.

“You need to strengthen every area. You need to strengthen the squad, so you need to bring players in who will keep players on their toes.

“I’ve always had a theory that if you’re not signing players, you’re potentially going backwards because other teams in and around you will be signing players and going that little bit further.

“If a club have got real ambitions of winning Premier Leagues, winning Champions Leagues, then you’ve got to sign players.”
