Sahin Reveals Why He Still Loves Jurgen Klopp

Turkey and Antalyaspor midfielder Nuri Sahin has explained why he still adores Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp.

Sahin has revealed the incident that made him love the German manager during their time at Borussia Dortmund.

The Turkish man came through the ranks at the Signal Iduna and it was Klopp who gave him his senior debut with the German club.

In an exclusive interview with Goal, the 32-year-old offered an insight into the Klopp's unique man-management skills.

“It was either 2009 or 2010,” the former Turkey midfielder tells Goal, smiling at the memory. “I was playing for Borussia Dortmund and the coach threw me out of training. He told me to leave, because I had an argument with another player.

“I was young and I thought I knew everything. I was sure I was in the right, 100 per cent, but he told me to go, so I went.

“So, the next day I came in and I thought ‘OK, maybe it’s the end for me here’, you know? I thought he would put me out of the squad or whatever. But he came in and it was like nothing had happened.

“It was a moment for me to realise that I would have him on my side even when I was in the wrong. It’s powerful when you realise that about your coach.”

At the age of 16 years and 334 days, Sahin was the youngest player to have played in the Bundesliga (this was later surpassed by Youssoufa Moukoko on 21 November 2020 at the age of 16 years and 1 day).

He played 274 games for Borussia Dortmund across two spells before joining their rivals Werder Bremen in 2018.
