Chelsea defied the odds to reach their second successive FA Cup final at the expense of Pep Guardiola’s men.
With both teams coming into this game in superb form after their midweek displays to reach the Champions League semi-finals, crashing out Borussia Dortmund and FC Porto respectively, it was the Citizens who were deemed the favourites to go through, but it was the West Londoners, who got the job done.
Chelsea were the better side in the first half but could not break the deadlock until the 55th minute when Timo Werner teed up Hakim Ziyech to put the ball past Zack Steffen.
Tuchel’s men remained resolute and compact to keep City at bay until the end of the game.
"It was a very, very strong performance. I am very happy and proud,” Tuchel said after the game.
"We played an excellent 35 minutes in the first half. We had to suffer for 10 minutes. We then played another 30 minutes so strong and got the lead, could have got another.
“It was a very strong performance and I am very proud of my team. Very happy they performed to this level. I am happy. Everybody who is on the pitch needs to perform.
"A good defence is also having the ball and ball possession. It is a very good clean sheet. We were not lucky to escape with a clean sheet, we worked hard for it.
"The guys were ready to cover for each other if anyone loses a duel. We wanted to be brave with the ball and against the ball and we did it. So happy."
