Alonso Plays Down Rudiger-Kepa Altercation

Marcos Alonso has played down an altercation between Antonio Rudiger and Kepa Arrizabalaga that occurred at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground on Sunday.

Still reeling from Saturday’s 5-2 annihilation at the hands of relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge, tempers threatened to boil over in training the following day as Kepa did not take things lightly after a challenge from Rudiger.

Manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly dismissed the Germany defender from training early to calm tempers down and Rudiger duly apologised for his part in the mini-brawl afterwards.

Alonso insists the players have moved on from the unfortunate episode as they are normal occurrences that happen from time to time in training.

"These are things that happen," Alonso told beINSPORTS.

"This shows the level of competition there is in the team, the hunger we saw on training ground - that's good for the team. Of course, even before training finished it was all good.

"[It is] nothing new, it has always happened, it will still happen and the thing we need to take is take the positves and move on and get ready for the next game."

Chelsea are back in action against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first leg on Wednesday in Seville before facing Crystal Palace in their next league game this weekend.
