Ibrahimovic Harboring Hopes Of Featuring At 2022 World Cup

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has set his sights on featuring at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after making a return to the Sweden national team.

Ibrahimovic, who last featured for his country at EURO 2016, was included in Sweden manager Janne Andersson’s 26-man squad for upcoming world cup qualifiers against Georgia and Kosovo, plus a friendly with Estonia last week.

The former Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain striker featured at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups but did not find the back of the net in either tournament.

He will be 41 by the time the next World Cup rolls around but Ibrahimovic is hoping he will get the chance to correct a slight dent on his decorated career by scoring a goal in Qatar.

"That is something I will beat because I can't have a zero," Ibrahimovic told a news conference about his world cup scoring drought.

"Looking too far ahead is dangerous. I must think more about what happens the next day.

"But If I feel the way I do today, I will be there."

Ibrahimovic remains Sweden’s all-time top scorer with 62 goals in 116 appearances.

"To play in the national team is the biggest thing you can do as a football player, and as I was following them (Sweden), inside me I was feeling I think I can help them, I think I can do something," Ibrahimovic added.

"Obviously it's not up to me, what a player wants and what a coach wants, it has to go together.

"I've got the opportunity now to play for my country and I do it with honour, but it's not only about that - it sounds like I'm only happy to be here, but I'm here to get results, to bring results for the coach and my team-mates and the whole country.

"As much as I talk here, if I don't bring results, here it means nothing."
