The Gunners are enduring a torrid season in Arteta’s first full season in charge and are currently sitting tenth on the Premier League table with eleven games remaining, 12 points adrift of Chelsea who sit fourth.
Arsenal’s hopes of defending the FA Cup ended in the fourth round when they were beaten by Southampton 1-0 at the St. Mary’s Stadium in January.
The North Londoners only realistic hope of winning a trophy is in the Europa League where they have been drawn against Olympiacos in the Round of 16 stage and questions have been asked if Arteta is the right man to bring success back at Arsenal.
The Spanish coach is adamant his side have improved and things will get better once the pandemic is over. Arteta also shared his experience on the impact the virus had on him and his team last year.
“I could never have imagined when I got tested and had the symptoms, all of the consequences that this virus was going to have on all of us,” the 38-year-old said
“Having my first job, to do that and after being in the job for only three months in normal conditions, to start to have a completely different context and framework to work in has been really challenging but, at the same time, it has made us, as a club, much stronger.
“We have created a really strong group, a really strong bond with our players, with our fans, with our staff and that is going to pay some big tribute in the future I think when everything comes back to normality and we are able to work the way we needed to work with some stability.
“I think this project is going to go ‘bang’ and this is where we are. Sometimes it is difficult to see the moment now, but I’m sure where we are going."
