The Blues boosted their top-four chances with a crucial win against rivals Liverpool thanks to Mason Mount’s first half goal.
Chelsea started the game strongly and thought they had found the opener when Timo Werner was put through by a wonderful pass from Jorginho before the German dinked the ball past Alison Becker.
But the former RB Leipzig man’s goal on the 25th minute was chalked off for offside by VAR.
Mount finally broke the deadlock three minutes before the break after he received a pass from N’golo Kante before cutting inside on his right to slot past Becker and that was enough to beat Jurgen Klopp’s men.
“ I am very, very happy with the performance. It was clear we needed a complete performance in all aspects of the game,” Tuchel told reporters after the game.
“We did this, we were very brave with the ball and never lost intensity with the ball. We were always aggressive and very brave. This was the key. It was a top team performance and a deserved win.
"Both teams started in a high level of speed and intensity. We knew that, we told the team we don't want to give too much information.
“When you arrive in a match like this you cannot overthink it. We managed all situations very, very good. Very, very encouraging."
Next up for Chelsea is a game against Liverpool’s local rivals Everton in the Premier League on Monday.
