Guardiola Hits Back At Klopp Over ‘Two Weeks Break’ Comments

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has slammed Jurgen Klopp over his recent comments, claiming that the Citizens had two weeks off when their clash with Everton was postponed due to COVID-19.

Klopp claimed that the break given to their rivals was the key factor behind Manchester City’s imperious form.

The Citizens closed their training ground for two days amid Covid-19 outbreak which forced the Premier League board to postpone their game with Everton which was scheduled for December 28.

Guardiola’s men returned to action on January 3 against Chelsea, but had six first-team players absent.

In an interview with the media ahead of Manchester City’s game against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday, Guardiola has refuted Klopp’s claim, insisting he is surprised by the former Borussia Dortmund manager’s comments.

"He [Klopp] made a mistake, it was two months off, or three months… no four months we have off. That's why we're in top four now... Jurgen has to see the calendar again," Guardiola said.

"We had covid, we had one week and we played with 14 players at Stamford Bridge.

"I'm surprised, I thought Jurgen was not that type of manager, like other ones who usually do it, so I didn't expect that comment," the City boss added.

"Maybe it was a misunderstanding. If he sees the calendar again, he will realize… it was not two weeks."

Manchester City will be hoping to extend the gap between them and Liverpool to 10 points when they lock horns at Anfield on Sunday.
