Ancelotti Satisfied With Everton’s ‘Performance And Spirit’ In Chelsea Victory

Everton head coach Carlo Ancelotti has admitted he is satisfied with his men’s display in a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday night.

The Toffees, who were struggling for form after a run of poor results in the Premier League, brought an end to Chelsea’s 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

The West Londoners started the game on the front foot but conceded a penalty when Edouard Mendy fouled Dominic Calvert-Lewin, before Gylfi Sigurdsson slotted home on the 22nd minute mark.

Frank Lampard’s men did everything to get back into the game but were kept at bay by a spirited Everton side and an element of luck on the side of the hosts as Chelsea hit the post twice.

Speaking to the media after the game, Ancelotti, who admitted he was satisfied with his team’s display, insists it was nice to see fans return to the stadium.

"Really satisfied. For the first time we had the supporters in the stadium and we were pleased for this,’ the Italian coach said.

“The performance, spirit was really good. We defended really well and then we used our ability on the counter-attack and in the end we deserved the win.

"We look for the clean sheets, we had only a clean sheet in the first game against Tottenham. It is quite strange, Tottenham have fantastic strikers, Chelsea too. That means concentration is important when you want to reach a clean sheet.

"We had some problems, we were not able to reach the levels of the earlier games. We lost our belief a little bit but after the game against Manchester United the performance was better.

"Gylfi Sigurdsson is very good on the penalties, he is cold and our penalty taker. There was a misunderstanding in the second half and his performance apart from the penalty was top.

Ancelotti lauded his counterpart Lampard, and insists the English coach is doing a fantastic job at Stamford Bridge.

He added: "Frank Lampard was good player and a fantastic manager, he is doing a fantastic job. He is young but he is doing really well. Chelsea are playing really good football."
