Manchester United put up a scintillating performance on Tuesday night in a 4-1 win against Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford and head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left delighted with his team.
Solskjaer revealed he saw the intent of his side from the onset as the Premier League club moved close to securing qualification into the next round of the competition.
Bruno Fernandes gave Manchester United a deserved lead in the opening seven minutes before doubling the hosts’ advantage twelve minutes later after a mistake from goalkeeper Mert Gunok.
Solskjaer’s men went further ahead when Marcus Rashford scored from the penalty spot ten minutes before the break.
The visitors had their consolation on the 75th minute mark through Deniz Turuc but substitute Daniel James restored United’s three-goal advantage during the dying embers of the game.
"I felt first half we saw the intent straight away, they wanted to play and they enjoyed it. It's a Champions League night at Old Trafford, you'd expect them to enjoy themselves. We scored some very nice goals, I'm pleased,” the Norwegian coach told the media after Manchester United’s emphatic win against the Turkish side.
Starting berths were given to summer signings Donny Van De Beek and Edinson Cavani and Solskjaer insists the duo are getting used to playing in his system.
“The two are getting used to how we want them to play - Donny can play in different positions and Edinson is a good old fashioned number nine and we haven't had that for a while and I was happy with how Anthony [Martial] played off the left."
Next up for Manchester United is a trip to St Mary’s to face one of the in-form teams in the Premier League, Southampton.
