Llorente Piles Title Pressure On Juventus

New Napoli striker Fernando Llorente says former side Juventus are under pressure to win the Serie A title because of their strength in depth.

Llorente joined Napoli a fortnight ago after leaving Tottenham Hotspurs at the end of last season.

The former Swansea City striker spent two seasons at Juventus between 2013 and 2015, scoring 23 goals in 66 games to help the Old Lady to two Serie A titles.

The blue-eyed striker reckons Napoli will have a good season but knows stopping Juventus will not be easy.

"It's not easy. When I was at Sevilla we beat them 1-0 [in 2015], with me scoring," Llorente said.

"I've beaten them before but it's one thing to do it in a single game and another thing to do so over the course of a season.

"As I've said, I'm confident and I believe we can have a good season.

"There's a desire to win a trophy, but we can't put pressure on ourselves. Juventus are the ones with all the pressure. They have a very strong bench.

"We have a very talented group with young players who will develop. I'm sure that we'll have a team of top players in the future."

Llorente will be hoping to help Carlo Ancelotti’s side break Juventus’ eight-year monopoly of the Serie A, having finished in second place in each of the last three seasons.

Napoli have begun the 2019/2020 season with a win and a loss in their first two league games, winning 4-3 away to Fiorentina before losing to Juventus by the same scoreline before the international break.

Llorente has 24 caps for the Spanish national team and was part of the sides that won the FIFA World Cup and European Championships in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
