Everton Want To Keep Unbeaten Run Going, Says Calvert-Lewin After Liverpool Stalemate

England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin has posited that Everton want to keep their unbeaten start to the domestic season going after a 2-2 draw with local rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday.

10-man Everton held on for a 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the first Merseyside derby of the season.

Liverpool drew first blood three minutes into the game through Sadio Mane but the hosts got their equalizer thanks to defender Michael Keane’s header on the 19th minute mark.

Mohamed Salah restored the visitors’ lead with a sublime finish for his 100th goal for the Reds.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men equalized once again as Calvert-Lewin rose highest to meet Lucas Digne's cross.

Liverpool thought the maximum points were snatched when Jordan Henderson scored a last-minute goal, but his effort was canceled by the Video Assistant Referee.

Speaking to the media after the game Calvert-Lewin admitted he is happy with the draw and insists his team-mates want to maintain Everton’s current unbeaten run.

“Yeah very strange [ending]. As you expect in a derby you have tackles flying in and it's physical. There is always a chance the referee might bring out a yellow or a red [card],” Calvert-Lewin said.

"In the end yeah [I'm happy with the point] but disappointed we didn't kick on at 1-1. We knew we'd go through spells without the ball but I've had chances where I'd back myself to put the ball away. I thought today would be the day we did it [and ended winless derby run] but it's on to the next one.

"I can't put my finger on why we came out slow, momentum was on our side but sometimes it happens. But we've made strides and got ourselves back in to the game and we had the chances to win it but we didn't take them today.

"I'm disappointed we didn't win the game and I know the fans are too. It's frustrating but in terms of the bigger picture we got a point, we take it and we keep building. We want to keep that unbeaten run going and building towards that bigger picture at the end of the season."
